We have lost our trusted co-worker, friend, and longtime Programming Coordinator, Fred Marin, who passed away recently. Fred was a friend to many in the area and was involved with numerous organizations, volunteering his time to help others. He worked for the station for the past seven years, and prior to that, he was a member of our Board of Directors for five years. He are grateful for his years of service and privileged to have know him. He was a dedicated man of wisdom and honor.
Want to know where all of that local programming comes from? Nearly all of it is created, produced, and delivered by community members. We are known for our local cable TV channels, but for many years, we have have made local programming available for online viewing as well. Beginning in 2007, we've offered video-on-demand on this very website. And in recent years, we've developed more of an online presence by offering that same programming on our You Tube channel. During the last year, we have added live streaming to our You Tube channel for some programs.. And now, we have made another ibig leap - we have begun streaming the Community Channel 24/7. (coming soon, we'll also be streaming the Education & Gov't channel as well)
What this means is that the entire channel - the same one that plays on Comcast channel 1076 & VTel channel 166 - is playing online.
So, do you want to "tune in" but don't have cable TV? Now you can! And you can always get up-to-date schedule information on the channel here, to find out what's playing.
We lost a member of our Board of Directors last week. Don Richardson of Mount Holly, who served as Vice President, passed away. Not only was he involved with our organization but also with many others. He gave back through his volunteerism, and his passing leaves a void in the community.
Prior to the pandemic, Don began to organize recordings of his square dancing group for TV, in collaboration with the Black River Academy Museum. Unfortunately, as with nearly everything, that was put on hold over the last 15 months. Also, Don was profesionally involved with energy efficiency and weatherization, and as part of his role on our Board, was serving as a liaison with Efficiency Vermont, so that we could get consultation as we prepare for the next phase of renovations in our facility. In Don's honor, we will see to it that both of these are brought to fruition - square dancing on TV and maximizing our weatherization potential.
He will be missed.
The fields are greening up, the buds are popping, & the chicks are growing. Yet we're still doing what we do.
...and just a couple of short weeks ago, we were looking more like this (thanks again to Nick Arduini for another photo of the week!):
